Its aims are to improve the care and outcome of patients with cardiovascular disease, and provide a general practice perspective on CVD management to policy makers and expert bodies.

BIOGRAPHIES
Alison Mead
Alison is a specialist dietitian in cardiology. She splits her time between clinical, teaching and research work and is based in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, UK and Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust.
She was the dietetic coordinator for EUROACTION and is now the dietetic director of MyAction. She has worked in clinical dietetics for 14 years and specialising in cardiology for 10 years. She lectures at Imperial College, Kings College and Chester Universities. She is chairperson for the UK Heart Health and Thoracic Dietetics Specialist group of the British Dietetic Association Group.
She published the updated UK guidelines for diet and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in 2006. Alison represents the BDA for the DH & BHF cardiovascular coalition, the post MI NICE guidelines and was co-expect member of the Cardiovascular Risk NICE guidelines. She was awarded the Role of Honour from the BDA for her contribution to dietetics in 2006 and 2009. She has just submitted her PhD in Nutrition and Cardiovascular disease.

Helen Williams
Helen worked as a specialist cardiac pharmacist at King’s College Hospital for 15 years before taking up her current role working across the South London Sector for a number of PCTs, acute trusts and the South London Cardiac and Stroke Network.
She is involved in a wide range of activities including developing pharmacist-led clinics, managing a community heart failure service, and supporting the NHS Health Checks programme. Helen has worked with NICE on clinical guidelines for Post-MI Secondary Prevention, Familial Hyperlipidaemia, Acute Chest Pain and Hypertension. Helen is a committee member for the UKCPA, founder member of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society Cardiovascular Pharmacists Group, an editorial board member for a number of journals and has published widely in the pharmacy and medical literature.

Dr Jonathan Morrell
Dr Jonathan Morrell has been a GP for 30 years and is now based in Hastings where he is also a hospital practitioner in cardiology. He was a founding member of both HEART UK and the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society.
He is an editorial board member, referee and contributor to a range of medical publications. He is the author of twelve books, mostly on the prevention of heart disease including ‘Lipids - Your Questions Answered’, ‘Best Medicine Simple Guide to Cholesterol’ and the recently published ‘Pocket Science - Lipids’. Jonathan is the current chairman of HEART UK’s FH Guideline Implementation Team and is actively involved in UMPIRE, the international collaboration investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of the ‘polypill’.

Laura Wyness
Laura Wyness has been Senior Nutrition Scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) for two years. Laura has an MSc degree in Health Services and Public Health Research from the University of Aberdeen.
Following this she completed a PhD in 2006 in Public Health Nutrition. Laura has conducted several systematic reviews for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence and the Cochrane Collaboration. Before joining BNF she worked in Dublin at Trinity College and at the Women’s Health Council.

Michaela Nuttall
Michaela has a research background specialising in managing and reducing risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and other vascular conditions. Her NHS role is the CHD coordinator for Bromley PCT.
Michaela is an active member of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (PCCS), where she was instrumental in the development of the Cardiovascular Nurse Leader Forum (CVNL), a specialist group of the PCCS, which she chaired for 3 years. Currently, she is board member of a Bromley Mytime, a third sector leisure trust, on the Health Care Committee of Heart UK and a CVD trainer for the Bradford Primary Care Training Centre. She also sits on the editorial board of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal and the British Journal Primary Care Nursing. Previously she was the founding chairman of the Prevention Group for the South East London Cardiac Network and twice elected to the council of British Association for Nursing in Cardiac Care.
